“Absolute: Opinion” Painting Debuts

New! “Absolute : Opinion” Painting

By Daric Gill

Sketching usually comes first for me. Hours are spent drawing out different ideas and different scenarios regarding how the next pieces should look. Then I select the appropriate piece of wood from my library to use as the canvas if you will. I enjoy this process and am generally pretty good at getting out my ideas this way. Occasionally, a piece of wood will come across my table saw and I’ll know that it’s the starting point instead. This time, the wood panel came first.

After a few days of ideation and not coming up with anything, I realized that I was drawing out plenty of stellar future paintings… but I couldn’t quite figure out this piece. And you know what, that’s not a bad thing. Read on to learn why.

NEW “Absolute: Privilege”, Painting On Cherry Wood

“Absolute: Privilege”

By Daric Gill

Today I’m introducing my latest fine art painting. It’s called “Absolute: Privilege” and features an antique scratch awl, two pieces of ripped paper, and a leaf from a blooming cherry blossom. The piece is painted on reclaimed cherry wood and is mounted into a frame from the 1800’s.  All of the hardware on the back is hand-made specifically for this piece. Totaling around 17″ tall by 15 1/4″ wide (framed), the piece is actually a rounded rectangle recessed into a the carved out rectangle in the back of the frame. This space was where the original photograph and glass were mounted.

This exhibition, curated by Stewart, includes tremendous artists from across the globe and is presented among some of the most exquisite motorcycles I’ve ever seen.

You can find my piece, “Broken Wing Motorcycles”, on display for the following year. Read onward for more information.
