Painting by Daric Gill Selected for Ohio Artist Registry Exhibition- “Absolute: Passage”

I am pleased to announce that my oil painting, “Absolute: Passage,” has been selected for the 2025 Ohio Artist Registry Exhibition. This event will be held at the Patrick Losinski Gallery, located in the historic wing of the Columbus Metropolitan Main Library. A special thanks goes to the Ohio Arts Council in partnership with the Friends of the Library. If you know me, you’re keenly aware that I spend most days researching, conceptualizing, or writing about my art from within the hallowed walls of a library.

I’m thrilled to invite everyone who supports funding art and libraries to join us for the closing reception on September 13th from 2 – 4 p.m. Let’s come together to celebrate the vital role of art, culture, critical thinking, literacy, continued community engagement, and a strong library system!

Exhibition Dates: July 3 – Saturday, September 13, 2025

Funding for libraries and the arts is at risk of financial cuts again. Ohio’s Public Library Fund, only 1.7% of the state budget, supports essential services like job assistance, free WiFi, shelter, and ESL classes. The Ohio House proposes replacing this stable funding with a less reliable option, jeopardizing the resources many rely on. Support our libraries to keep them strong!

If you live in Ohio, visit any of the Columbus Metropolitan Library’s 23 locations and write a message to the state senate, and they will hand deliver your postcards.

Shy Machine-Al-Tiba9

‘The Shy Machine’ by Daric Gill, in ISSUE 18 Al-Tiba9 Magazine

by Daric Gill

“The Shy Machine” in Al-Tiba9 Magazine.

I am deeply honored to announce that “The Shy Machine” has been published in Issue 18 of Al-Tiba9 Magazine, an esteemed international platform known for showcasing experimental & innovative contemporary art. A gallery & publication based in Barcelona, Spain, Al-Tiba9 has earned a reputation for promoting diverse artistic voices worldwide, reflecting today’s art scene’s dynamic & ever-evolving nature. I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to the Al-Tiba9 team for their commitment to providing a platform that fosters creativity & critical dialogue.

“The Shy Machine” is a motion-activated, sound-reactive, environmentally adaptive, kinetic light sculpture. As its name would suggest, this robot is shy. The two halves of this 12-sided geometric form open and close depending on the noise levels in the environment. Vibrant lights pulse from within according to the volume in the room. The insides are packed with electronic brains, lights, and sensors to make this happen. In this article, you can explore the build process from start to finish. For more about the artistic concept, click here. Or if you’re interested in how I built it from start to finish, click here.

I was very pleased to see the high caliber of other represented contemporary artists, photographers, performers, & designers. You can find copies of the magazine online, at their gallery in Barcelona, or at one of the ArtsLibris International Art Book Fairs: ARCOlisboa (Lisbon), MACBA (Barcelona), FIL Guadalajara (Mexico).

“The Circadian Machine” by Daric Gill, A Light & Sound Sculpture Featured in Divide Magazine: Issue 13

I am incredibly grateful to be featured in Issue 13 of Divide Magazine! Having “The Circadian Machine” highlighted among such talented creatives is an honor. It’s always wonderful to share my work with a wider audience, especially through an international publication like Divide Magazine. I’m excited to continue exploring the intersection of light, sound, and emotion, and I can’t wait to start on the next piece.

“The Circadian Machine” at the Columbus Museum of Art

“The Circadian Machine” is a motion-sensitive light & sound sculpture that uses its GPS location to dynamically change its internal clock & sound + light displays based on the unique amount of sunlight on that specific day & location. It can be activated from anywhere in the world by special invitation. You can read the whole magazine here (my feature is on pages 216-217).

The Quiet In “Absolute: Stillness”, New Painting From Europe

It might sound weird, longing for stillness after 3 years of isolation in a tiny apartment. But after a few years of small spaces, digital experiences, recycled days, and turning around in the same stimuli, there developed a vibration in my soul that amplifies to this day.

Some artists need to make artwork or they go crazy. I’m not like this. My love affair isn’t with the art-making process or even the final art object. No. My primary love for creating art is all about idea-making; the journey of curiosity and problem-solving, and the adventures before the artwork has even started. The creativity that comes out of my fingers is my way of digesting the vibrancy of life. Without remarkably different narratives to explore and no tangible place in which to share them, I was an adventurer with no expedition and a storyteller with no audience. And that, for me, produced a frequency of such amplitude that it compounded and ricocheted.

“Absolute: Stillness”, is the quiet calm feeling that washed over me as I finally made my way back to the adventure. In this case, back to Europe. Below you’ll find several vignetted stories describing some big-small memories, along with a full gallery of images. Read on for more.
