It is good to look inward with an absolute silence, to find solace during those cacophonous times. For Absolute: Rest, I took a major departure from my normal idea-gathering process and instead developed the painting alongside a short story I wrote.

Absolute: Rest is an oil painting on reclaimed Honduran Mahogany. A black handmade envelope is painted above a translucent geometric ‘X’. On top of the envelope is a leaf from the ZZ plant. Its green flesh is held down by a smooth stone. Each of these elements is symbolic, taken from the short story, Bricks to Stones.

“So afraid of a falling shelter, Man spent all his energy grinding bricks into stones and bones to dirt. These are materials more suited for a garden than a shelter.”

The Making Of “Absolute: Insulation” Oil Painting On Cherry

Newest Painting “Absolute: Insulation”

By Daric Gill

Introducing my latest painting, Absolute: Insulation, an oil painting on reclaimed cherry wood.

A leafless branch is vignetted in the center of the undulating patterns of the wood below. The top half of the branch, sheathed in a coating of white, reaches outward and upward. The base of the branch fades into the background wood. Look close enough and you can see dried remnants of moss on the twig. A deep red-brown color envelopes around the center; its rich color coursing through the wavy cherry wood grain.  Read more below…

*Update* Since this article, CICA has started to charge significant exhibitor fees that weren’t present during my exhibition. I do not generally support costly exhibitor fees.

After finishing out the year on display at the Czong Institute for Contemporary Art Museum in South Korea, my painting Absolute: Earnest has come home. The exhibition called Artist Statement has been published in an art-book that showcases a side-by-side documentation of the artwork and the artist’s statement. The concept behind the exhibit and the art-book is to show the connections between an artist’s work and their written philosophies. Read more below.

Absolute: Position, my newest oil painting, is currently on its way to The George Billis Gallery in Los Angeles. I’ve been loosely connected with the gallery for a couple years now, showing a few pieces in their Culver City, LA gallery as well as the home gallery located in Chelsea, NYC.

It’s a real pleasure to announce that they will be receiving another piece on the west coast and I urge anyone in the area to check out the gallery. Read more below…
