Schumacher Gallery decal and small sculpture arrangement

A few days ago, The Absolutes opened at the Schumacher Gallery among giants like Warhol, Chagall, Nevelson, Picasso, and Calder. Also debuting with The Absolutes are 5 new sculptures made from small found objects used in my paintings; arranged much like how they’d exist during an in-studio painting session. Rich with symbols, each artwork feeds off the others in the exhibition. Now they reach into the three dimensions  through these found-objects artifacts.

Flanking The Absolutes is a wide array of African, Inuit, Asian, and European artwork spanning over 2,000 years. All works are part of a massive donor-based museum collection.

Exhibition Dates:
January 15, 2018 – March 28, 2018
(Please note: The gallery is closed February 24 – March 4 during mid-term break.)

“Absolute: Graft” Part of $3 M Art Purchase Investment: Placed In Grande Glass Atrium

Columbus Convention Center Purchases Large “Absolute” Painting: Places In Marvelous Glass Atrium

By Daric Gill

Atrium View

Back in September 2015, the Greater Columbus Convention Center (GCCC) began a $125 million rejuvenation and expansion project, which includes a 37,000 sq. ft addition of exhibit space. With the majority of the renovations finished in July, 2017, it totals a whopping 336,000 sq. ft of contiguous exhibit space, making it one of the largest exhibit spaces of its kind. Also part of the expansion, the Franklin County Convention Facilities Authorities (FCCFA) has embarked on a series of pedestrian advancements. A number of covered air walks, walkways, and widened hotel corridors joins the Arena District to several blocks of the Short North Arts District. This makes the walk between events, garages, and hotels a comfortable all-weather activity. With all of this new space makes for plenty of walls to fill with artwork.

Most exciting (at least to me) is the $3 million art investment that has made the convention center and neighboring connections the largest collection of contemporary artwork in Franklin County. I’m quite grateful to be included in this permanent collection. Among the purchased artwork is “Absolute: Graft”, a 3 ft x 4 ft oil painting on maple. Read the original post about the thought process behind the artwork here. Watch how it was made and see the whole exhibit space below.

*Update* Since this article, CICA has started to charge significant exhibitor fees that weren’t present during my exhibition. I do not generally support costly exhibitor fees.

After finishing out the year on display at the Czong Institute for Contemporary Art Museum in South Korea, my painting Absolute: Earnest has come home. The exhibition called Artist Statement has been published in an art-book that showcases a side-by-side documentation of the artwork and the artist’s statement. The concept behind the exhibit and the art-book is to show the connections between an artist’s work and their written philosophies. Read more below.

Absolute: Position, my newest oil painting, is currently on its way to The George Billis Gallery in Los Angeles. I’ve been loosely connected with the gallery for a couple years now, showing a few pieces in their Culver City, LA gallery as well as the home gallery located in Chelsea, NYC.

It’s a real pleasure to announce that they will be receiving another piece on the west coast and I urge anyone in the area to check out the gallery. Read more below…
