“Absolute: Rest” Painting Selected for OAL, Carnegie Gallery

It’s my pleasure to announce that Absolute: Rest has been selected for the Ohio Art League Fall Juried Exhibition. This year it will be held at the Carnegie Gallery, a brand new exhibition space in the newly remodeled Columbus Metropolitan Library. Exhibit is free, open to all, and feature the best work of both emerging and established artists.

Absolute: Rest is an oil painting on reclaimed Honduran Mahogany. A black handmade envelope is painted above a translucent geometric ‘X’. On top of the envelope is a leaf from the ZZ plant. Its green flesh is held down by a smooth stone. Each of these elements are symbols taken from the short story, Bricks to Stones. A side note: This piece of wood originally belonged to a 1927 Honduran mahogany from a baby grand piano. You can read how I made the painting on the baby grand piano top here.
Jurors of Esteem
Sarah Fairchild is a painter and printmaker working in Bushwick, Brooklyn. Her work addresses a deep concern for the environment and sustainable food sources, while also investigating the hand-made verses the mass-produced. A Columbus College of Art and Design graduate, she served over 10 years on the Ohio Art League’s Board of Trustees, two as board president. Sarah’s work can be found in several public and private collections. Her work was selected for publication in New American Paintings, International Painting Annual and Studio Visit Magazine.
Chet Domitz has an MA in Economics and BA in Art History. He has worked at Hammond Harkins Galleries since 2010 in a variety of capacities, using his background in business and the arts in the gallery’s day-to-day operations as well as its long-term planning. More recently, he is the main contributor to the forthcoming Greater Columbus Convention Center Art Collection, a catalog featuring works by over 125 artists who are part of the GCCC Art Collection that was funded by the Franklin County Convention Facilities Authority. Chet has also worked for the GCAC Columbus Arts Festival as a member of the Coordinating Committee for the Artists’ Market. He enjoys working with artists, learning about the arts in Columbus and beyond, and engaging the public through exhibitions and one-on-one discussions about art.
