Columbus Convention Center Purchases Large “Absolute” Painting
By Daric Gill
It’s my pleasure to announce that my artwork has been selected to be part of a $125 million rejuvenation project that has recently begun at the Greater Columbus Convention Center (GCCC). In September 2015, the GCCC began a massive renovation and expansion project, which includes a 37,000 sq. ft addition of exhibit space. This totals a whopping 373,000 sq. ft of contiguous exhibit space, which is projected to be complete in July 2017. The GCCC is slated to be the 4th largest exhibit space of its kind. I’m quite thankful to be part of this amazing opportunity. “Absolute: Graft”, a 3 ft x 4 ft oil painting on maple, has been purchased for the new edition. Read on for more.

The Painting, Process, & Background to “Absolute: Moment”

Snow gloves, tank tops, and an umbrella? Where I live, that can only mean one thing: the seasons are changing. Spring is fast approaching. The 30º shifts and seasonal mixes each day make getting dressed seem more like a daily challenge to design a functional superhero costume. A balancing side effect of this spectacular shift in weather is the equally impressive change in environment.
Crocuses wake up through icy snow crystals. The deciduous trees, with their angrily wild stick-bones, soften due to crimson red buds and fluorescent green leaflets. There’s a change that happens; a release of life back into the world as if a clinched fist has loosened, allowing the life-blood to flow again. As if constantly looking at one’s watch while waiting for company, I actively search for that moment when I can find spring in the world. My latest painting, “Absolute: Moment” searches for that transitional happening, where the old is reborn into something new.
This piece has been selected for this year’s Art for Life benefit. Recently this piece has been dropped off at the prestigious Pizzuti Collection Museum and may travel to several other locations before landing at the Columbus Museum Of Art where it will be auctioned off in support of two worthy causes. Newest Painting Chosen For Biennial “Art For Life” Benefit: Pizzuti Collection & Columbus Museum Of Art
by Daric Gill
“Absolute: Moment”, Oil paint on reclaimed birds eye maple. 11 1/2” x 18 1/2” 3.9.16.
I’m pleased to announce that my artwork has been selected for this year’s Art for Life benefit. It will be exhibited at the prestigious Pizzuti Collection Museum August 6 – September 3, 2016, before landing at the Columbus Museum Of Art where it will be auctioned off in support of two worthy causes on September 24.
Every 2 years Equitas Health (formally ARC Ohio) mounts a dazzling gala and auction that raises funds for HIV/AIDS research and advocacy services (among many other things). In what will certainly become a spectacular partnership, they have joined forces with one of my favorite contemporary art collections/nonprofits, the PizzutiCollection. Together they will present the 2016 Art for Life event and fund ventures that will support both AIDS research and children’s arts education. I’ve donated to this cause in the past, but I’m especially excited for this newly struck partnership and the added benefits it provides.
The 2016 Art for Life event will take place September 24, 2016 at the newly opened Margaret M. Walter Wing of the Columbus Museum of Art. This will be the inaugural Art for Life event in the 50,000-square-foot modern art annex and “will feature important new work from artists from Ohio and around the country, as well provide access to regional and national art collectors.”
