“Absolutes” To Be In John F. Peto Museum, NJ

Peto Museum Announcement & Invitation

This Friday marks the opening of  “The National Juried Show of Contemporary Trompe l’oeil” at the John F. Peto Studio Museum, Island Heights, NJ.  It is a great pleasure to announce that I will have two “Absolute” paintings on display at the museum until the end of the year.

Absolute: Division
Absolute: Division: Oil on reclaimed cherry in an 1800’s Victorian molded frame. 14″ x 12″. 3.8.13.

There are twenty-six artists representing seventeen states with a total of sixty works. I’ve seen several of the other pieces included in the show and they all look absolutely stunning!

This is a particularly big honor for me, as Peto is considered one of America’s finest still life painters.  I poured over his work in college while defining my own personal style. Having my work selected by the foundation that represents this amazing painter and then having my work displayed in his studio museum is among the most amazing complements I’ve ever been paid. If you’ll be in NJ or would like to take the short 1.5 hr trip from NYC, please stop by the museum and check out some amazing artwork.

Exhibition Dates:
Sept. 28th-Dec. 31, 2013
What does ‘trompe l’oeil’ mean?
Absolute: Division (detail)
Absolute: Division (Detail): Oil on reclaimed cherry in an 1800’s Victorian molded frame. 14″ x 12″. 3.8.13.

It’s a type of art-making where visual illusion is used to “fool the eye” (translation) into perceiving a painted detail as a three-dimensional object.
